Owner and Managing Director
I officially joined the business in 1989, after completing my A levels, and then took over the reins from my father back in 2001. I had to work my way up through all the roles within the garage, starting as an apprentice mechanic, gaining my qualifications and experience within the workshop for a number of years. I then moved on to the back-office side of the business, taking over the accounts from my Uncle when he retired. From there I then became involved in the sales side of the business and worked along side my father until he retired. I now oversee the day to day running of the business and staff but predominately use my experience of the motor trade on the sales side of the business, buying and selling on a day to day basis which is a real passion of mine.
When I get some time away from the business I'm busy with the family and trying to keep up with two young boys who are into rugby and biking! In my younger years I was a keen rugby player, playing for Otley RUFC and now I keep my hand in helping coach the Junior Under 9's at the club. I also enjoy clay pigeon shooting and during the summer months I shoot for the Royal Oak team in the Nidderdale league......and even after 10 years at it, there's still room for improvement!
My wife Alison came to work for the business after our children started school and nursery in 2012. Prior to that Alison was in banking from leaving school and worked for Barclays for just under 20 years. It was great to finally have her working in the business with me and despite some tough times, when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, she has helped me keep the business running, dealing with everything from HR, sales and marketing, administration and accounts. We make a great team with our combined experience and although some people wouldn't dream of working with their other halves we enjoy the day to day challenges of running our own business.
When she not at work, Alison is full time organiser of the boys sports and social calendar, ferrying them round to various clubs and activities. As a mum of two boys she's become a keen mountain biker and gets stuck into their hobbies and also helps out at the rugby club, managing the Otley Junior Under 9's team. When she gets a bit of time out she loves to relax with a book and a fine glass of rum!
John has been with us for over 12 years now, joining us in 2006, when he moved to the UK from New Zealand. He had previously been a Production Manager for a printing and book binding firm so when he came to us for the role of sales advisor we based our decision, not on his experience, but on his lovely relaxed, friendly manner and excellent references. It was really important to us that we found someone who fitted in with our family business and our core values on customer service. I think it's fair to say that after 12 years we made the right decision and John has proven to be a great asset to both the company and to the team. He is affectionately known as 'Kiwi' at work, although the lads in the workshop like to wind him up and call him 'Aussie'! It's always a great talking point with customers when they hear his accent and there is much discussion around his move to the UK and where he lived in New Zealand.
In his free time John is really into his sport, both watching and playing. He's a keen squash player and enjoys running to keep himself in shape.
Tony is our longest serving member of staff and has been with us for over 40 years now. During that time he has worked his way up through the ranks of the workshop to Service Manager. As well as his wealth of knowledge and hands on experience he has a real understanding of our customers and our core values of customer service making him a fantastic asset to the business. Tony started with us back in 1975 and is almost part of the fixtures and fittings of the business. He has seen many changes over the years and has been very hands on with the expansion of the premises.
In his spare time Tony is a keen fisherman and has provided us with some wonderful trout over the years! He also loves tinkering with old cars and is currently restoring an original mini to it's former glory. You will always recognise Tony when your on the premises as no matter what the weather, rain or snow, or how cold it gets.....he's always in short sleeves!!
Assistant Service Manager
James started with us straight from school back in 2007 and is now in his 12th year with us. He is an exceptional assest to the team and the business and has a vast amount of experience already. He's a quick learner and has fantastic customer service skills which are so important to us. As such he has already worked his way up to provide cover for the Service Manager role and can always be relied upon to step in other roles as and when needed.
James is a great family man, spending his spare time with his son Henry and boder collie Sam, who keep him very busy. He's a big Formula 1 racing fan and is also into his football. He supports Manchester United......so gets a lot of stick at work for that! At work he holds the record for the biggest (and shiniest!) tool box we've ever seen and he keeps us all entertained with interesting additions to his body art!
Body and Paint Technician
Phil also joined us straight from school back in 1985 and now has over 30 years experice under his belt with us. Phil is a fantastic employee and absolutely first rate at his job. His attention to detail and meticulous nature means he can always be relied upon to do a first-rate job for customers needing body repair and paint work. Phil can turn his hand to almost anything and helps with many other roles within the business. Over the years Phil has proved himself the 'fixer' of almost anything. With our two boys, now aged 9 & 11, he has been given some challanges over the years with toys and items that have had unfortunate 'accidents' but he has miraculously managed to fix almost anything they have given him!
Phil is a great family man and In his spare time he is a classic Ford fanatic and quite the caravan enthusiast. He's our go-to-person for advice on anything caravan and camping!
Motor Vehicle Technician
Paul has been with us for over 15 years now, joining us in 2004 from Dixon Vauxhall in Menston where he had worked for 25 years. Paul has a wealth of knowledge and experience as a motor technician making him a very valuable member of the team and an asset to the business. He has a very methodical way of working and it's fair to say you probably won't find a more organised tool box or clearner workstation anywhere!
Paul is a very keen cyclist and spends much of his free time out on the open road with his local cycle club.
Graham started with us back in 2006 and has been making our sales cars pristine for over 12 years now. He's an absolute dab hand at turning some of our well-loved trade-in's back into the shiny, like new cars they once were. Graham is fanatical about getting cars looking their very best which makes him a great asset to the business. Graham also doubles up as our handy maintainence man as well and can often be found mowing the grass, trimming hedges, painting and doing other diy projects.....but you always know where Graham is on the premises thanks to his tuneful whistling!
In his spare time Graham enjoys family time with his grandchildren and is also a football referee so spends his Saturdays on the football pitch for the local teams.
Apprentice Motor Vehicle Technician
Nathan joined us in July 2018 as an apprentice technician. He'd already completed his level 1 qualification and came to us with some well established skills due to his love of cars and tinkering with engines. This is, in part, due to his fathers involvement with rallying and Nathan has grown up around cars and from a young age has helped keep their family rally car running. Nathan has settled in really well with the team and is doing a great job, it's a pleasure to have him in the business.
Nathan really is a car fanatic and unsurprisingly spends the majority of his spare time on the rally circuit with his dad.
